Men’s Finalists for M.A.C. Hermann Trophy
Announced
Carson, Calif. - A three-time All-Big Ten player,
the two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, and a two-time
Colonial Athletic Association Defensive Player of the Year comprise the three
finalists for the men’s Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, the highest
individual honor in intercollegiate soccer. The finalists were determined in
voting of Division I men’s soccer coaches who are members of the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Indiana’s Danny O’Rourke, Tulsa’s Ryan Pore and Virginia Commonwealth’s Gonzalo
Segares are the three finalists for the award. The trio will be invited to the
Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 7, for a news conference
where the winner of the award will be revealed. A banquet at the Club that
evening will feature the formal presentation of the prestigious crystal soccer
ball trophy to the winner.
O’Rourke, a senior midfielder from Columbus, Ohio, has started every game he’s
played in during his four-year career at Indiana. This season, he was a
unanimous choice in earning the third first team All-Big Ten accolade of his
career. O’Rourke anchored the Hoosiers’ stingy defense which helped lead IU to a
second consecutive College Cup appearance.
Pore, a junior forward from Mansfield, Ohio, led the Golden Hurricane in goals
(22) and assists (11). He set the school’s single season record for goals. Pore
helped Tulsa reach the NCAA quarterfinals and the best season in school history.
He earned Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year honors for the second
consecutive season.
Segares, a senior defender from San Jose, Costa Rica, played in and started
every game for the Rams. He was a key part of a defense that recorded eight
shutouts. Segares was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Defensive Player
of the Year for the second time. He scored four goals this season.
An exhibition featuring the current and the past recipients of the M.A.C.
Hermann Trophy is on display at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Oneonta,
N.Y.
